The legislature in West Virginia legalized medical cannabis in 2017.

The Bureau for Public Health within the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is responsible for regulating cannabis activity. Under the Act, patients suffering from specified “serious medical conditions,” such as cancer, are permitted to use cannabis. 

The West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) uses Metrc for cannabis seed-to-sale tracking activity. With rules in place to track, trace, store, and report every gram, end-to-end solutions and services will be essential to save time, minimize costs, and scale growth.

West Virginia's Licensing Information

According to The West Virginia Medical Cannabis Act, the bureau will issue up to 10 grower permits, up to 10 processor permits, and no more than 100 dispensary permits. It will also regulate testing laboratories.
