In 2018, Oklahoma legalized medical marijuana with the passage of the Medical Marijuana Legalization Initiative. In 2019, the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act was signed into law and created the initial regulatory framework within the state, and assigned rule-making powers to the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA). 

The 2019 Act authorizes compliance inspections and reviews of applicants, licensees, and medical marijuana business licenses. The 2019 Act imposes disciplinary actions for violations, created a medical marijuana use registry of patients and caregivers, and establishes additional rights, restrictions, and prohibitions relating to medical marijuana use and possession.

The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) uses Metrc for cannabis seed-to-sale tracking activity. With rules in place to track, trace, store, and report every gram, end-to-end solutions and services will be essential to save time, minimize costs, and scale growth.

Oklahoma's Licensing Information

The Oklahoma Legislature's 2022 regular session passed a new legislature that has effects within the next year on the commercial licensing process, and/or current licensees. HB 2179 creates a tiered commercial grower fee structure based on size and type of facility that would be effective June 1, 2023.
