North Carolina has a comprehensive set of laws and regulations surrounding cannabis, and only allows for medical cannabis use through a program that allows qualified patients to access cannabis products with a doctor's recommendation.

Recreational use of cannabis is still illegal in North Carolina and the possession of up to 0.5 ounces of cannabis is considered a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $200. Possession of more than 0.5 ounces is considered a felony and can result in up to 8 months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000. It is important for North Carolinians to be aware of these laws and regulations and to comply with them.
