The state of Massachusetts has recently allowed the possession and sale of cannabis for both medical and recreational purposes. The state has been working to legalize the drug for years.

The new law allows adults over the age of 21 to possess up to one ounce of cannabis for recreational use and up to 10 ounces for medical use. It also allows for the sale of cannabis in licensed dispensaries, with the state collecting taxes on all sales. This new law is expected to be a major boost to the economy of Massachusetts, as the cannabis industry is expected to bring in millions of dollars in revenue to the state.

Massachusetts's Licensing Information

The Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) issues licenses based on the type of cannabis activity. You may need more than one license if you do more than one function. 

 

With the new law passed, there are a few conditions to keep in mind:

  • Possession of up to one ounce of cannabis is legal for adults 21 and older.
  • Home cultivation of up to six cannabis plants is legal for adults 21 and older.
  • Cannabis can only be purchased from licensed dispensaries.
  • It is illegal to consume cannabis in public or while operating a motor vehicle.
